Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says there is “no more important” message for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to hear than that families and pensioners are struggling. “There are a lot of Australians who are working at the moment, probably more hours than they ever have,” Mr Dutton said. “But they still can’t balance their budget, they still can’t afford to pay the bills. “They’re the families that I want the Prime Minister to be focusing on. “Because I think at the moment the Prime Minister’s focus is elsewhere and it’s not on families and businesses who are most in need.”

Peter Dutton slaps down Warren Mundine’s suggestion for treaties and Australia Day changePeter Dutton slaps down Warren Mundine’s suggestion for treaties and Australia Day changeOpposition Leader Peter Dutton has slapped down leading ‘No’ campaigner Warren Mundine’s suggestion that treaties will be more likely if the Voice referendum fails. Mr Mundine broke ranks with senior 'No' campaigners on Sunday – backing treaties and a change to the date of Australia Day. Mr Dutton was quick to distance himself from Mr Mundine’s comments saying he’s been clear that a government he leads “will not enter into billions of dollars’ worth of treaty negotiations”. The Opposition Leader claimed treaty negotiations would just “see rich lawyers in Sydney and Melbourne get richer”. “The Prime Minister’s talking about treaties after the Voice which will go on for between 20 and 30 years – cost billions of dollars,” he said. “The situation will only get worse for those Indigenous Australians in need of support.”
