Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina plans to process used cooking oil (UCO) into sustainable aviation fuel through a collaboration with PT Gapura Mas Lestari. The Green Refinery Cilacap Project, led by Pertamina subsidiary PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), aims to produce 300,000 kilolitres of fuel annually. The project is expected to create alternative energy sources, promote local development and minimize environmental impact.

Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina plans to process used cooking oil (UCO) into environmentally friendly aviation fuel as part of its green energy agenda. The plan will be carried out by Pertamina's subsidiary, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), under the Green Refinery Cilacap Project in collaboration with UCO exporter PT Gapura Mas Lestari.

The project is estimated to process feedstock with a capacity of 6,000 barrels per day (bpd) to produce hydrotreated vegetable oil and sustainable aviation fuel. According to Pertamina, the production is estimated to reach around 300,000 kilolitres per year. 'This is an innovation from Pertamina to produce sustainable and more efficient fuel. We continue to develop renewable energy by utilising the energy sources available in our country,' said Fadjar Djoko Santoso, vice president of corporate communication at PT Pertamina, in a written statement published on Tuesday. President Director of KPI Taufik Aditiyawarman said that the project aims to provide alternative energy sources, create added value for the community, support local development, and reduce environmental impacts. 'We believe that with the spirit of collaboration and commitment from all parties, this project will be able to overcome various obstacles and become a successful example in the development of sustainable energy,' he said.
