Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana allows Indianapolis residents to share anonymous tips with law enforcement.Police are investigating after finding a person dead on the east side early Thursday morning.

About 5:30 a.m., a passer-by flagged down Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers near 25th Street and Emerson Avenue to let them know they saw someone lying by the roadway at 34th Street and Leland Avenue, Sgt. Genae Cook said. The officers found someone who appeared to be a teenage male unresponsive and lying next to the road, she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at appeared to have gunshot wounds, Cook said. Police do not know his specific age but based on observations believe he is a teenager, she said. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency were among those who responded, according to Cook and a news release.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide, Cook said. They're asking those who live in the area and have camera systems at their homes as well as anyone who heard or saw something to contact the homicide office, she said.
