Perodua has experienced a remarkable rise in the ASEAN car market, overtaking Honda and solidifying its position as the second-largest car brand in the region. The company achieved significant growth in sales and production, despite anticipating a slight decrease in the coming year to accommodate new model development.
Perodua has achieved a significant leap in the ASEAN car market, moving from third place in 2023 with 330,000 units sold to second place in 2024, selling 358,000 units. This impressive surge propelled Perodua past Honda, which sold 303,000 units, and left fellow Malaysian carmaker Proton trailing in fifth place with 148,000 units sold. While most car brands witnessed a decline in sales compared to 2023, Perodua and Mitsubishi stood out as the only brands to register growth.
BYD made a notable entry into the top 10 in 2024, selling 52,000 units and surpassing Hyundai, which dropped to ninth place. Ford maintained its position as the tenth most popular brand but saw a decrease in sales, dropping from 50,000 units in 2023 to 45,000 units in 2024.Perodua's success extends beyond sales figures. Their production output reached 368,100 units in 2024, significantly boosting their market share to 43.8%. Despite this remarkable performance, Perodua anticipates a production decrease of 4.9% to 350,000 units in 2025, and a corresponding 3.7% drop in registrations to 345,000 units. This strategic adjustment is aimed at preparing for the introduction of new models and fostering greater self-reliance in developing future products. This move was explained by Perodua's president and CEO, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad. Fortunately, Perodua started the year with a robust order book, indicating strong consumer demand. Despite consistently exceeding production capacity, the carmaker remains optimistic about its future prospects. Perodua's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction positions them favorably for continued success in the competitive ASEAN automotive market
