Perodua has confirmed that a full model change ( FMC ) for one of its existing models is expected this year. This FMC signifies a comprehensive redesign of a current model, rather than an entirely new one. While models like the Axia, Alza, and Ativa are relatively new, and the Aruz is likely on hold, the Bezza and Myvi stand out as the primary candidates for this overhaul. Both vehicles have been in the market for a considerable time.

The Bezza, in particular, appears dated compared to other Perodua offerings, lacking the advanced airbag count and driver assistance systems found in newer models. On the other hand, the Myvi, Perodua's best-selling model, marked a pivotal moment for the company, introducing a new era focused on safety. Launched seven years ago, it has consistently received updates but shows signs of aging, still relying on an older Daihatsu platform instead of the latest Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA). Perodua has previously stated its capacity to introduce only one new FMC per year, implying that only one of these two models will be renewed this year. The company's increased capital expenditure (capex) could potentially allow for expanded capabilities, although it will already be heavily engaged with its first fully in-house electric vehicle (EV) project. The timing of these potential renewals is intriguing, coinciding with Perodua's ambition to enhance its self-reliance in product development. Both the Bezza and Myvi signified a significant leap for the company's design and engineering capabilities, featuring in-house-designed 'tophats' (upper body shells) atop existing platforms. This marked a departure from Perodua's past practice of rebadging and performing minor redesigns on Daihatsu models. It is anticipated that either the Bezza or Myvi will be based on the DNGA platform, again featuring a new tophat. This would represent Perodua's most extensive in-house engineering on the latest platform, as previous DNGA models have retained significant similarities to their Daihatsu/Toyota counterparts. As for powertrains, expect the new Bezza or Myvi to continue utilizing the proven 1KR-VE 1.0-litre three-cylinder (Bezza only), 1NR-VE 1.3-litre four-cylinder, and 2NR-VE 1.5-litre four-cylinder (Myvi only) engines, paired with the latest Dual-Mode CVT (D-CVT). This would be a first for the Bezza, which currently employs a four-speed automatic transmission
