Former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) deputy director Rafael M. Ragos may be charged with perjury for executing false testimonies, a Department of Justice (DOJ) official said on Sunday, May 14. | ManilaBulletin
Prosecutor General Benedicto A. Malcontento said Ragos’ recantation of his earlier testimony against former senator Leila M. de Lima led to her acquittal in the case involving illegal drugs.
Ragos had testified that he delivered the money in 2012 when he was officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Corrections . He recanted his testimony against De Lima and Dayan. The decision stated that “the testimony of witness Ragos is necessary to sustain any possible conviction.” Malcontento said that Ragos swore to the truthfulness of his testimony against De Lima and was even warned that he could be charged with perjury if this was found to be false.
