PETALING JAYA: An Opposition MP has submitted an emergency motion to discuss Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent trip to Saudi Arabia in the Dewan Rakyat.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal submitted the motion after claiming that his questions to the Foreign Minister on the matter were rejected.

He said in a statement on Tuesday that the motion seeks to discuss the economic impact of the Prime Minister's official visit to Saudi Arabia from Wednesday to Friday and the state of bilateral ties. "The public has the right to know what happened in Saudi Arabia, who is responsible and how much government revenue was used for the trip.

"Under Standing Orders 18 and 18, I urge Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir to explain the situation in the Dewan Rakyat," the Bersatu Armada chief added in a Facebook post Tuesday. Over the weekend, the Opposition Perikatan Nasional coalition claimed the three-day trip was a failure as Anwar was only welcomed by the Jeddah governor and did not meet the Saudi Prime Minister.
