PETALING JAYA: An elephant trapped in a snare in Jeli, Kelantan, was rescued by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), thanks to a Good Samaritan who alerted the department to the elephant's plight.

Perhilitan said on Oct 9 that its hotline received a call regarding an elephant that was thought to have been trapped in a snare and injured near Kampung Renyuk, Jeli, Kelantan."On Oct 10, a total of 11 staff members consisting of UTG Kelantan and the east zone Op Bersepadu Khazanah team conducted operations to track down the elephant.

The post, which has three photos of the trapped elephant, also thanked the complainant for providing information to the department so that the elephant could be rescued.Social media users also thanked Perhilitan for saving the elephant, with Facebook user Da Yun writing:"Thank you for saving this elephant. Baby elephants who are without their mothers will easily die. Please return them to the forest as soon as possible.
