IPOH: The Perak government expects the state to produce an estimated RM390mil worth of fish, chickens, eggs, pork and cow’s milk through its Fishery and Veterinary Services Department from June 1-15.

State Agriculture, Fishery, Plantation and Food Security Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri said the state has allocated at least RM3.95mil to further develop projects involving the breeding of farm animals and fish, as well as agricultural products.

Yunus added that this allocation also covers RM860,000 to be dispensed to 285 farmers, and special aid for selected vegetable and fruit operators in the state to purchase fertilisers or any similar items. He said the state would also organise a “green Earth” campaign that would focus on encouraging the rakyat to plant their own vegetables.

“Using the kitchen garden and edible landscape concept, we have allocated RM790,000 that would benefit at least 10,500 households. There are also allocations for aquaculture farmers, including those farming lobsters and clams, ” he told reporters at the State Secretariat Building on Tuesday .“We have planned several programmes and campaigns to ensure the state will have enough food for its people.

Yunus said the state would continue to provide more incentives, initiatives and technical advice to farmers, breeders, and fishermen to generate more entrepreneurs.
