GEORGE TOWN July 2 — The state government is seeking clarity on the role of SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd, the project delivery partner for Penang’s transport master plan , now that the state’s light rail transit project will be owned by the federal government via MRT Corp.
“The state government has appointed SRS Consortium as the PDP did the work the project to be implemented. We are still waiting for the federal government and MRT Corp’s decision regarding the role of the company. “MRT Corp has identified a site that is suitable for the depot. It is a private property and we believe they are negotiating with the site owner. If the owner approves, we have no problem with the depot being built there.
The LRT depot was previously supposed to be built on a reclaimed island under the Penang South Island project.
