The Penang state government is expected to continue its commitment to sustainable development through the Pan-Island Link 1 (PIL 1) project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the state. According to the Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital Committee chairman, Zairil Khir Johari, PIL 1 is part of a long-term plan to strengthen the transportation network and ensure that Penang continues to develop as a modern and competitive state. The project, designed as an outer ring road, will act as a major traffic relief, reducing congestion on existing roads such as Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway and Jalan Masjid Negeri.
