George Town, Malaysia: In an effort to reduce traffic congestion, parking charges in Penang are set to increase by 50% from March, affecting designated locations for Penang Smart Parking (PSP) users. While some view the move positively, others are concerned about the impact on living costs and alternative solutions such as cycling and public transportation have been suggested.
GEORGE TOWN: While many laud the move to increase parking charges here by 50% as one way of reducing traffic jams , others are worried about the impact on living costs.
"Good...you want to save on parking then take the public transportation... smart move because the island gets too congested," wrote Daniel K Ragu on social media. Parking rates in Penang will see a 50% rise in fees at designated locations on the island for Penang Smart Parking users from March. Chan Lai Kueen is worried that with the increase in parking charges, the"costs of living in Penang will increase again."
