Preserving the environment and its resources is another, the President pointed out, as he welcomed the continued support for the Philippines-hosted ASEAN Center for Biodiversity.At the plenary of the 40th ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Mr. Marcos called for regional unity to make the Association of Southeast Asian Nations responsive to present challenges, as he appealed to his fellow leaders to continue creating an inclusive and resilient ASEAN conducive to growth and prosperity.
The President suggested the enhancement of ASEAN solidarity as the regional group confronts challenges such as natural disasters, health emergencies, armed conflicts, and economic recessions. “We should enhance ASEAN food security cooperation through strengthened initiatives and expanded projects under the ASEAN Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry and other related mechanisms, including those with our dialogue partners,” he said.
To address the climate crisis, the President called for a united voice and urged all countries to fulfill their obligation to attain carbon neutrality by 2050. Romualdez, along with some Cabinet members and other government officials, is part of the official Philippine delegation to the 40th ASEAN Summit.Mr. Marcos arrived with his wife, First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel on Friday morning and received a warm welcome from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
