GENEVA 1 April - Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu mengecam pelaksanaan undang-undang syariah yang bakal dilaksanakan oleh Brunei, Rabu ini dengan mendakwa peraturan itu sebagai ‘kejam dan tidak berperikemanusiaan.’
“Saya merayu kepada Brunei untuk menghentikan penguatkuasaan undang-undang syariah baharu ini yang akan menjejaskan perlindungan hak asasi manusia bagi rakyat Brunei sekiranya dilaksanakan,” kata Ketua Hak Asasi Manusia PBB, Michelle Bachelet dalam satu kenyataan. Undang-undang syariah itu akan menghukum pesalah yang terbabit dengan kesalahan rogol, zina, curi, menghina atau memfitnah Nabi Muhammad dengan hukuman mati namun kanun jenayah terbabit hanya tertakluk kepada penduduk Muslim.
