Pay up: If MPs don\u0027t attend meetings they will have to cough up for cancelled flights and hotels

Parliament's chair of chairs Cedric Frolick says MPs who are cancelling their oversight and overseas trips at the last minute will have to reimburse the institution.

Parliament's chair of chairs Cedric Frolick has cracked the whip on errant MPs who don't show up for oversight visits, study tours and public hearings. In a letter, Frolick, the House Committee Chairperson for committees, ordered that all MPs who fail to attend to their outside parliamentary duties should reimburse the institution for money lost due to the cancellation of their travel and accommodation.

"It has been brought to my attention that certain committees cancel public hearings and oversight visits at the last minute even though all travel arrangements and payments were finalised by Parliament. The committee section management has also informed me that committee staff are put under undue pressure by certain chairpersons, whips and members to cancel or make changes to confirmed bookings," Frolick's letter read.
