Patrice Motsepe's footprint in South African sport continues unabated after SA Rugby announced that his African Rainbow Capital will bankroll the revival of the popular Gold Cup.

SA Rugby on Saturday confirmed that the captain of industry's investment-holding firm, African Rainbow Capital , will sponsor the revival of the Gold Cup, the popular open-club tournament that ceased back in 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And by all accounts ARC, heavily involved in the lower divisions of South African soccer, were keen to extend their footprint in the amateur sphere of local rugby.

14 of SA Rugby's provincial affiliates where asked to nominate two clubs each from their regions, while the Griffons did so with one, Welkom Rovers. "This is an important tournament on our rugby calendar and we're delighted to be able to confirm a major new partner for the competition," he said.
