Members of the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - Pasig hosted an emergency preparedness educational tour for preschool students in the city.

The tour, led by the Manila Electric Company Rescue, was attended by a total of 23 preschool students from the Philippine Montessori Center in Quezon City. The program sought to help promote and instill the importance of emergency preparedness to the youth to ensure they are equipped with the training to overcome and survive any calamities or disasters.

It aimed to encourage “alertness and presence of mind” in children to help them respond in times of crises. The activity was held at the newly established Meralco Rescue Fire Sub-Station located within the premises of Meralco’s headquarters in Ortigas, Pasig City. The participating students were educated on the basic emergency response skills and first aid such as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation . They were taught how to call for help using the 911 hotline and how to use an automated external defibrillator.

The training also gave the children insights on how to escape burning buildings through rappelling or ziplines, what to do when they are involved in incidents with zero visibility, and methods on how to suppress fires. For its part, Meralco said that it “continuously enhances its emergency capability to boost efforts in providing a safe environment for its employees as well as the community it serves.”for local government employees, public school teachers and students, youth organizations, homeowners’ associations , business establishments, and other groups.
