PETALING JAYA: PAS top veteran Subky Latif died of illness on Tuesday (June 23) morning. He was 79.
Subky, whose real name is Ahmad Subki Abdul Latif, passed away at his residence in Gombak, Selangor, after suffering from pre-leukaemia syndrome.
Subky was surrounded by his wife Naznah Taha, 65, their five children and grandchildren at his home in Taman Karak Utama when he breathed his last at 11am, according to his daughter Dang Fatiha, 42."He would have turned 80 on July 28," she added. Funeral prayers will be held at Bilal bin Rabah mosque in Gombak after the zohor prayers before his burial at Raudhatus Sakinah Muslim Cemetery, also in Gombak.
Subky, who started out as a journalist at the then Utusan Melayu in 1963, was instrumental in setting up the PAS organ Harakah in 1978, as well as the now-defunct Watan and Suara Merdeka.At the time of his death, the Perak-born leader was known for writing the column Men Sana in Corpore Sano in Harakah.
He was also the head of the PAS veterans' organisation Sidang As-Sabiqun and had written many books on local politics.
