PAS Selangor strongly defends the state government's initiative to implement STEM education based on the Quran in 23 religious secondary schools. The party emphasizes the importance of connecting STEM with Islamic teachings and rejects the notion that Islam opposes scientific advancements.

The Selangor chapter of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) has strongly condemned those who disparage the state government's initiative to implement science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education based on the Quran in 23 religious secondary schools (SMA) under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS). PAS Selangor Commissioner, Datuk Dr. Ab.

Halim Tamuri, stated that they support this move, which aligns with Islamic teachings that emphasize the importance of knowledge and scientific exploration that can be found within the divine scriptures. He explained that connecting STEM with Quranic knowledge is a relevant step to help students master these fields to a higher level and utilize them in global life. 'PAS Selangor strongly condemns those who belittle this noble effort and question the compatibility between the Quran and STEM,' he said in a statement. 'The view that Islam does not support scientific and technological advancements is a shallow and unfounded perspective based on historical facts about Islam,' he added. Last Saturday, Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, reportedly stated that the state government would begin implementing STEM education in 23 SMA under JAIS supervision this year. According to him, the program, developed by Yayasan Restu, aims to connect STEM with values within the Quran and encourage a deeper understanding of Allah's grandeur through a scientific approach. Ab. Halim pointed out that the Islamic world has produced outstanding scientists in STEM fields like al-Khawarizmi, Ibn Sina, and al-Biruni, whose works remain primary references globally, including in Western countries. 'As an alumnus of JAIS schools and an individual with experience in the education sector at higher learning institutions, I represent PAS Selangor in calling on all parties, including parents, educators, and the community in Selangor to support the implementation of this initiative. This step is crucial to ensure that the human capital development of Selangor's people is more competitive and high-quality,' he stated. - UTUSA
