KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan and four other party members have been released by the Magistrate's Court here after being arrested on Wednesday (Nov 23) night for allegedly taking part in a protest convoy.

They were brought to the court on Thursday for a remand application for investigations under the Sedition Act and Communications and Multimedia Act.They were represented by counsels Lim Heng Choo, RJ Noel, Dominique Ng, Patrick Voon, Steven Sia and Alex Kong.

The PBK president and party members were arrested after police reports were lodged based on viral video clips of the protest convoy around the city on Wednesday evening. Sarawak police commissioner Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the PBK president allegedly condemned the proposed alliance between Gabungan Parti Sarawak and PAS in the video clips, the Borneo Post reported.

"In the videos, a man was seen to be talking through a hailer in front of a hotel at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and near a commercial area at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli," he said. He also said videos of the group's vehicles being driven around the city with banners stating"Say No to PAS" were also circulated online.Article type: free
