Park Ridge’s Friday night summer concerts are underway in Hodges Park, with the next performance set for July 7. The series is historically free to attend and brings orchestras and other musical acts to the steps of City Hall. Park Ridge Fine Arts Society President Chris Poindexter said the series has run for at least 60 years. The summer’s first two concerts, organized by the Park Ridge Park District, took place in Hodges Park June 16, featuring the band Soda and June 23, featuring the group The StingRays.
The Park Ridge Fine Arts Society will begin programming the concerts July 7. Poindexter said The Chicago Big Band, directed by Brian Patti, would bookend the lineup with performances July 7 and Aug. 11.“People tend to dance in the street ,” Poindexter said. “He’s a well-liked favorite of the Park Ridge crowd.”
The Park Ridge Symphony Orchestra, directed by Barbara Schubert, is on for July 14, July 21 and July 25, per program information.“They performed last year for the first time and everyone came up and said boy, bring them back,” Poindexter said. Asked who he’d most like to bring to Hodges Park, Poindexter answered Tony Bennett.
