Park Ridge residents have raised nearly $11,000 for a boy, 12, and a girl, 17, who lost their mother in a car accident recently.
Coach Brad Schwartz with a 12-year old team member whose mother, Nataliya Kasiyan, died recently, during the championship game of Sunday’s baseball tournament at Hinkley Park. The event was a fundraiser organized by Schwartz. Proceeds were for the boy and his sister, 17, who were orphaned when their mother was struck by a vehicle while walking in Wisconsin. Their father had died in 2018. Organizers said over $11,000 was raised for the siblings.
The event, which took place at Hinkley Park in Park Ridge, featured a bake sale and a raffle alongside the baseball tournament. The boy’s baseball coach, Brad Schwartz, took the lead in organizing the event. Schwartz also said his son is close friends with the boy.“We surpassed our original goal of $10,000 and have raised nearly $11,000,” Schwartz said.
Schwartz said 15 businesses had signed up to sponsor part of the event to support the siblings. He said he’s known the boy for some time and wanted to organize a show of support for him and his sister.“He loves baseball, that’s his favorite,” Schwartz said. “Why don’t I try to get all the community together and fellow coaches to do a little one-day tournament?”
