The Minns government has confirmed the popular parking app will be axed as it tries to find savings to the state’s bottom line.

The NSW government has confirmed popular parking app Park’nPay will be culled in Tuesday’s state budget but FuelCheck will be spared the axe.shows the Department of Customer Service advocated cutting funding for Park’nPay, developed under former Liberal minister Victor Dominello.In response, Treasury advised the best course of action was to discontinue the government-run app.

Four options were provided to the government, including selling off to a private entity, or discontinuing it altogether.

Industrial Relations Minister Sophie Cotsis criticised the roll-out of Park’nPay when Labor was in opposition.In mid-June, Mookhey said that after discovering a “$7 billion budget black hole” the government was undertaking a comprehensive expenditure review, with Treasury assiduously considering each departments’ spending programs.

In 2021, then-opposition transport spokeswoman Sophie Cotsis said Labor was opposed to the government competing with technology providers.
