The parents of a US Marine veteran locked up in Russia met with President Joe Biden Wednesday hours after they traveled from Texas to protest outside the White House.
Trevor Reed has been behind bars since 2019 as he serves a nine year sentence on charges he assaulted two cops in Moscow.
“During their meeting, the President reiterated his commitment to continue to work to secure the release of Trevor, Paul Whelan, and other Americans wrongfully held in Russia and elsewhere, and to provide all possible assistance until they and others are free and returned home to their families who are advocating so passionately for their release,” Psaki said in a statement.
Psaki said the president’s national security team will remain in regular contact with the Reeds and other families of “Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad.”
