Panthers’ unsung hero admits a job at the wharf awaited before Ivan’s NRL ‘lifeline’
“Working at the wharf out at Port Botany for DP World . I worked there previously so I was lucky I had a foot in the door if needed but at the end of the day, I had the fire in the belly and just wanted to put a first grade jumper on again,” Sorensen revealed.Fast-forward to today, and Sorensen is just 80 minutes away of collecting a third straight NRL premiership.
The brothers played over a combined 300 games for the Sharks, with Dane’s 222 good for sixth all-time for most appearances for Cronulla. In that span, Sorensen plyed his trade in the reserves and park footy leagues. He wouldn’t get another decent crack in the top grade until 2018 when linking back up with the Sharks. Over the next three seasons, he split his time in Cronulla’s first and reserve grade teams and playing in 34 NRL matches.For the second time, Cronulla didn’t offer him a contract after the 2020 season, and Sorensen wasn’t sure what the next chapter was in his rugby league story.

His play earned him selection in the New Zealand side for the World Cup and a new three-year extension, which will keep him at the foot of the mountains until the end of 2026.
