Penrith Panthers enforcer Spencer Leniu has suffered a grisly 'high impact injury' during an opposed training session which has put his dreams of an Origin start in doubt.

The 22-year-old Panthers prop ruptured a testicle when he was accidentally kneed in the groin during an opposed training session on Wednesday night.

Picture: Bradley Kanaris/Getty Images Leniu was potentially an interchange option for his debut start in the NSW State of Origin team for game one, with a report from the Sydney Morning Herald claiming coach Brad Fittler tried to convince Penrith's medical staff he was okay to train on Thursday.

Next week’s match against the Brisbane Broncos will be the final chance players have to impress Fittler before the Blues side is announced.
