Annastacia Palaszczuk’s deputy, Steven Miles, has dismissed talk she must step aside for Labor to be competitive at the next election as “rumours and gossip”.
Redbridge Group director Tony Barry, a former Liberal strategist, says “every political leader has a shelf-life and Annastacia Palaszczuk has reached hers”.“Changing leaders before an election can be a real Hail Mary pass but it’s a better proposition if the alternative is certain defeat. It appears as though it might save the Labour government in New Zealand, but it won’t help the Conservatives in the United Kingdom.
The Queensland opposition, he said, led by Mr Crisafulli and campaign director Ben Riley, was the most professional state outfit on the Coalition side of politics. He said there was no succession plan in place despite widespread speculation he should replace her as leader.
