"Unfortunately, our friends, who are very close to Pakistan as well, felt that the conference would divide the ummah.
"I was looking forward to attend the conference because I feel it was very important for Muslim countries to educate the western countries or other non-Muslim nations about Islam," he told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his two-day working visit to Malaysia.
