The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) has announced its heightened efforts in addressing illegal activities associated with Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO) in the country.

In a statement, Jessa Mariz R. Fernandez, Pagcor Assistant Vice President for Offshore Gaming Licensing said that all POGO licensees and service providers have been placed on probationary status and are required to reapply by Sept. 17, 2023.

“We will also evaluate the beneficial owners of these companies so that they will be held liable in case they are found to be involved in any illegal activity,” she added. The imposition of stricter rules comes as a response to the closure of several POGOs that were discovered to be implicated in cryptocurrency investment scams, serious illegal detention, and human trafficking activities.

Fernandez replied that Pagcor has not received any reports from its monitoring team indicating the Island Cove POGO hub is a scam hub.
