The Padres made a number of moves before Monday’s game at Dodger Stadium: Right-hander Robert Suarez is back from his sticky-stuff suspension, right-hander Nick Hernandez had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso and left-hander Tim Hill and catcher Gary Sanchez were placed on the 60-day…

is back from his sticky-stuff suspension, right-handerGary SanchezSanchez’s move was expected as he fractured his wrist during the homestand, but Hill had already returned from a left ring finger sprain only to land back on the shelf with the same injury. The 33-year-old reliever has a 5.48 ERA on the season and has allowed eight runs in 1 2/3 innings since his return from the injured list on Sept. 1. That includes allowing six runs on six hits without recording an out on Sunday.

Hill will be replaced in the bullpen by Hernandez, a 28-year-old reliever who will be making his MLB debut after signing a minor league deal with the Padres in January. An eighth-round pick of the Astros in 2016, Hernandez was 5-1 with a 3.60 ERA, 81 strikeouts and a 1.10 WHIP in 60 innings as he rose from Double-A San Antonio to El Paso . He’s also been 7-of-9 in save chances while holding hitters to a .209 average.

Suarez’s activation returns the bullpen to full strength after his sticky-stuff suspension forced the Padres to play a man down.Monday’s pitching matchupHe’s coming off his first career win as he shut out the Phillies over a career-high 6 2/3 innings despite walking six in his last start. Avila struck out seven over 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball in his only appearance against the Dodgers this year.
