Padres pregame: Luis Campusano behind plate for Ryan Weathers' return

Luis Campusano caught Ryan Weathers frequently at Triple-A El Paso in 2022 and caught some of his better appearances in 2021

— combined for one baserunner allowed, a hit batter that was quickly erased by a double-play ball.While Campusano and Weathers were paired together frequently last year at Triple-A El Paso, the young catcher had also been a part of some of Weathers’ most successful appearances in 2021.

In four appearances with Campusano behind the plate, Weathers has struck out 13 against five walks, scattered three hits and allowed just one homer over 12 1/3 innings . That includes making his first MLB start against the Dodgers in April 2021 while paired with then-fellow-rookie Campusano, striking out three and allowing one hit and two walks over 3 2/3 shutout innings in a game the Padres eventually lost in 12 innings.

Campusano will bat sixth on Monday and is among a number of Padres still looking for firsts entering the fifth game of the season.
