Padres right fielder Juan Soto out of Wednesday's lineup a day after he was scratched with left mid-back tightness
The Padres offense, averaging 1.8 runs per game through the first five games of the homestand, certainly needs all the help it can get.Austin Nola provided the lone extra-base hit and collected two of the Padres’ six hits Tuesday, but he’ll give way to Jorge Alfaro for the day-after-night start.Wil Myers again will start in Soto’s place in right field after getting called into action just before Tuesday’s first pitch.
Myers went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and is hitting .249/.297/.320 on the season, while looking for his first homer since managing his lone blast of the season on May 13. Jake Cronenworth replaced Soto in the two-hole on Tuesday and is back in that spot on Wednesday after going 1-for-5 and driving in the Padres’ lone run in a 3-1 loss.
The Padres’ three through five hitters combined to go 1-for-10 with two walks, with Alfaro striking out in both his plate appearances as the DH after Brandon Drury was ejected for arguing a called strike.Tuesday’s loss prevented the Padres from padding their lead on the Brewers in the race for the NL’s No. 6 seed:
