Padres pregame: Blake Snell, Shohei Ohtani, fresh off winning June awards, face off tonight
Shohei OhtaniTonight, the NL pitcher of the month for June and the AL player of the month square off.It is the third monthly nod of Snell’s career and the second straight month in which a Padre was honored aswas May’s NL pitcher of the month. It is also the third time that Padres have won the award in consecutive months aswon it in August and September during his 2007 Cy young season.
Snell went 3-1 with an 0.87 ERA over his five starts last month, striking out 53 and holding hitters to a .124 batting average over 31 innings.The Angels’ two-way superstar — who will start Tuesday on the mound in— hit .394 with 15 homers, 29 RBIs, a .492 on-base percentage and a .952 slugging percentage in 27 games played in June.
He will bat third as the DH on Monday and is 2-for-3 with a double and two walks in his career against Snell.
