Six days after Aaron Rodgers emerged from his darkness retreat, he has yet to let the team know what his plans are for the upcoming season.
, he has yet to let the team know what his plans are for the upcoming season. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst met with reporters Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine and gave some insights into the team’s thinking.according to The Athletic.
Those options include the 39-year-old Rodgers returning to Green Bay, the Packers trading him away or retirement. Rodgers was hoping to gain some clarity on his future from the darkness retreat, which he completed on Wednesday. Gutekunst said the team wants a resolution before free agency starts on March 15. The Jets are among the suitors for Rodgers and he sits atop their quarterback wish list, with free agent Derek Carr also heavily in the mix.according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“I’ve talked to a lot of different teams about a lot of different things, but actual talking about trades, not yet.” Gutekunst said the Packers would have to restructure Rodgers’ deal if he is to stay with the only franchise he has known. Gutekunst also praised backup quarterback Jordan Love. It is believed that the Packers’ faith in Love — a 2020 first-round NFL Draft pick — is part of the reason they are willing to move on from Rodgers this offseason.“I think he’s ready to play and I think he’s ready to be an NFL starting quarterback,” Gutekunst said of the 24-year-old Love.
