PETALING JAYA: The Public Accounts Committee welcomes the decision to debate its report on the littoral combat ship project during the next Parliament meeting which begins on Monday , says its chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
She said the decision by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who visited the Boustead Naval Shipyard at the Navy base in Lumut with PAC members on Thursday , was the right move."During the visit, we heard a briefing on the of the second generation of LCS from the project team director 1st Lt Franklin Jeyasekhar Joseph and BNS chief executive officer Captain Azhar Jumaat," Mas Ermieyati said in a statement Friday .
"This decision shows that Parliament is taking a proactive step as a check and balance mechanism to the executive and the government."It is historic, not only for Parliament but also for the PAC as it is the first time the committee's report is being debated. Previously, PAC reports were only tabled," she said."An example could be the motion on debate and winding-up of the Auditor-General's Report on June 6 and 7 by the relevant minister on every issue which arises.
"However, my view is that the PAC report should be tabled and wound-up by the PAC chairman and the committee members," she added.Federal Territories dept targets 50,000 to join Passport 50WP programme
