The Public Accounts Committee has unanimously rejected an offer from RTÉ to provide a summary of a note taken during a meeting related to the Ryan Tubridy's contract.
RTÉ had hoped the offer would end the current logjam, as the PAC had demanded that the original note be provided to them, something RTÉ had refused to do citing client-solicitor confidentiality. The committee also reiterated their call to see the original unredacted note.
However, they have said that they are willing to look at this in private session and will not discuss this particular document publicly. There is precedent for such an arrangement. Members of the PAC are concerned that the content of the note could form a key part of their understanding of the overall controversy.
For that reason members were not happy to accept an RTÉ offer to provide the committee with a summary of the note in private session, provided that it was kept confidential. If a response is not forthcoming, the PAC will decide on its next moves on Tuesday. Committee Chair Brian Stanley said that"RTÉ had shown some willingness to resolve this issue" and therefore the PAC was now amending its request.Earlier, Tánaiste Micheál Martin called for"full transparency" from RTÉ in relation to the document.
