Olympic silver medalist Carlo Paalam has bid his Asiad medal hopes goodbye, after losing to 2023 featherweight world champion Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

Khalakov defeated Paalam via unanimous decision in the quarterfinals of the men's 57 kg division.Before running into the world champion Khalakov, Paalam defeated Mohammad Abu Jajeh of Jordan and Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan in the preliminaries before running into his Uzbek opponent.

This would mean that Khalokov will advance to the semifinals, facing Lyu Ping of China, whose defeated Sachin of India via points.Of the 10 boxers the Philippines has sent to Hangzhou, only Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial is left, as he is assured a medal and is set to face Syria's Ahmad Ghousoon on Wednesday in the semifinals of the men's 80 kg.
