A western Pa. town banned Republican lawmakers from its July 4th parade while allowing Democratic officials to participate, a county GOP official said.

Instead, Terling said that committee bylaws were updated in 2021 to only allow the mayor and Canonsburg council members to walk in the parade, and this is the first time the rule has been a problem. Logue said that parade organizers “turned a blind eye” to Democratic Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi walking in the parade. He also wrote that Democratic candidates were “allowed to walk the line and hand out political materials.”
“Nearly every parade I’ve ever been in bars candidates, not sitting officers, from being in a parade,” she wrote. “It was just ridiculous.”that he expected 50,000-60,000 people would attend the two-mile parade, which the borough says is the second-largest July 4th parade in the state.
