The Mirror reported that the argument began over fireworks that Hanson had set off the night before, which had sparked a fire on Gainvor’s property. The argument escalated until Gainvors went inside, with Hanson yelling at him from outside. When Gainvor came back outside with a weapon, Hanson reportedly goaded him to shoot.

The Mirror reports that Hanson was charged in 2018 after yelling at Gainvor’s 7-year-old daughter, and that Gainvor and another woman had pinned Hanson to the ground until police arrived, when Hanson then struck a deputy in the chest.
Gainvors, who had been living in Punta Gorda, reportedly cooperated with deputies throughout their investigation. He was arrested on July 19 and is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
