The Bucks County man had adopted the dog after it was rescued from a greyhound dog racing ring in China, according to the District Attorney's Office.

On Wednesday, a Bucks County judge ordered the 50-year-old to spend two to four years in a state prison facility for the killing and ruled that he could never own, possess or care for any animals of any kind, according to the DA’s office. Officers found Lukyanchikov sitting on a bench near the fire, the DA’s office said. He was throwing fake $100 bills into the fire and squirting it with lighter fluid. Officers also saw a 9mm handgun on the bench, but police later learned it fired blanks.

One of Lukyanchikov’s roommates told police she heard several shots coming from his bedroom, and when she went to see what happened, she found the dog with gunshot wounds, according to the DA’s office. She said she barricaded herself in her room because she was afraid. During a police interview, Lukyanchikov said he shot the dog to put it out of its misery, but also said it was because he was “having a rough day,” the DA’s office said.
