Around P19 million worth of suspected smuggled white sugar was seized by authorities on Wednesday at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) in Tondo, Manila.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard on Friday, sacks of white sugar were found inside five container vans initially declared to contain insulators, surge arresters, slipper outsoles, and styrene-butadiene rubbers.
A warrant of seizure and detention will be issued against the seized goods for violating Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. The operation was conducted in coordination with the Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Plant Industry, and the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, the PCG said. —
