KUALA LANGAT: A total of 6,750 cartons of contraband cigarettes worth RM337,500 were seized following an operation codenamed Ops Taring Landai.
OCPD Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor@Saleh said a team from the marine police's intelligence unit also detained a man during the operation at Jalan Klang-Banting at about 8.30pm on Saturday ."Checks showed the suspect has a previous criminal record," he said in a statement on Monday .
Supt Ahmad Ridhwan said the suspect admitted to smuggling cigarettes since March, which was masterminded by a local man. "The suspect transported the cigarettes from Kota Baru and it was meant for the market in Johor Baru.The suspect has been remanded for 14 days to assist in investigations, Supt Ahmad Ridhwan added.Article type: free
