Over $44,000 raised at WSFA’s Summer Fund and Food Drive
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - So many from the community chipped in to help feed those in the Montgomery community who need a little help.
WSFA 12 News held its annual Summer Fund and Food Drive at Renfroe’s Market Friday. Food and monetary donations came in throughout the day to benefit the Montgomery Area Food Bank. The food bank reported that by the end of it, a total of $44,487 in donations and 5,032 pounds of food were collected. Some of the bigger donations came from Auburn University at Montgomery and Alabama State University, plus Renfroe’s itself. The supermarket donated $20,000.
The drive was sponsored by Renfroe’s, the city of Montgomery, plus Dixie Electric Cooperative, which gave $2,500. The city of Montgomery was also a partner. Montgomery Area Food Bank leaders say there are about 200,00 people in the area who are food insecure, and they rely on donations to help them. Donations can always be made at the
