New data shows the wait to get into social housing in Queensland is over one and a half years, as almost 100,000 blocks of land are waiting to be built upon. Supposedly 879 of those blocks are owned by the Department of Housing. The housing minister has defended the empty blocks, saying around 60 per cent of those blocks are already programmed for construction. Almost two-thirds of vacant blocks are in South East Queensland, where three councils have criticised the government over infrastructure funding.
