KUALA LUMPUR: Over 16,000 Malaysians reported online scams and losses totalling almost RM40mil since the 997 hotline began in October 2022, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Since it was set up , the NSRC received 16,752 calls covering reports of cheating cases and gave advice to callers,” she said.
The Minister in charge of Law and Institutional Reforms said the NSRC was set up last year to provide a faster response to cyber crimes in a more efficient manner. Azalina added that this included immediate steps to block and freeze the accounts used by the scammers and blocking the phone numbers used for the illegal activities.
