JOHOR BARU: More than 10,000 people across Johor have participated in a mega-cleanup programme under the state government's Johor Bersih campaign.
Housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the event on Saturday involved 16 local councils and 384 council zones.“The programme was officiated by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at Pontian Municipal Council.
“The initiative aims to promote an environmentally conscientious community that is able to mobilise cleanup programmes with the help of NGOs and the private sectors,” he said in a statement on Sunday . The programme is also backed by SWM Environment Sdn Bhd and Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation .Besides conducting cleanup activities, it also promotes tree replanting efforts in housing areas and parks, which is in line with the Johor green initiative, Mohd Jafni added.
The Johor Bersih campaign was launched on July 2 as part of six core strategies identified to realise the administration's vision for a developed state. They are: governance; economic development; a social safety net; facilities and basic needs; safety, cleanliness and environment; and a focus on orang muda Johor.
