ULAN BATOR: As of Tuesday (May 5), more than 10,000 Mongolian nationals abroad have expressed their wish to return home where a mere 41 Covid-19 (coronavirus) cases have been reported, according to the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"As of today, a total of 10,076 Mongolian citizens staying abroad have expressed their request to return home," Lkhanaajav Munkhtushig, director general of the consular department at the ministry, said at a press conference.

According to the country's State Emergency Commission, chartered flights will be operated to Turkey and India in the coming days to evacuate Mongolian nationals, Munkhtushig said. Mongolia from mid-March began evacuating on chartered flights its citizens belonging to at-risk groups, including pregnant women, the elderly, children and sick people from COVID-19-hit countries, including South Korea, Japan and European countries.

Since then, the Asian country has evacuated more than 2,600 nationals from abroad through chartered flights. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
