President Cyril Ramaphosa’s renewed AARTO legislation promises harsh penalties for those who flout the rules of the road.

"The Act promotes responsible behaviour on our roads through the creation of a demerit system, which introduces meaningful consequences for reckless, negligent and inconsiderate conduct,” Ramaphosa said.“We are going to intensify education in terms of AARTO, we are going to do that in the next coming months in all the spaces where people travel, we are going to intensify that work,” Mbalula said.

Ramaphosa has also introduced the revamped Arrive Alive programme, which aims to reduce deaths over the next 12 months.
