Azman said the operation has successfully ensured the supply and distribution of sugar while making it accessible to consumers at a price set by the government.

He said the operation, launched on May 3 and was supposed to end last month, has been successful in ensuring stable supply and distribution of sugar while also making it accessible to consumers at the price set by the government.

The retail prices for coarse and refined white sugar have been set at RM2.85 and RM2.95 per kilogramme, respectively. However, the price for clear refined white sugar is determined by the market. Among the offences were selling sugar above the regulated price or providing misleading information about the price, he said.

He added that the ministry had made 282 arrests in relation to the offence, involving 220 locals and 62 foreigners.
