Seven political parties attending the national convention at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, kicked off the two-day conference with a pledge to put aside their political differences to come out with a strong alliance that will dethrone the ANC from power after the 2024 national elections.
Steenhuisen denied that there was an agreement with the ANC and assured their coalition partners that they won’t do anything to jeopardise their relationship and the course they have undertaken to remove the ANC.Seven political parties accepted the DA's invitation to attend a two-day national convention, which began on Tuesday, at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhululeni.
Insiders told City Press that some of the burning issues that were discussed included the DA’s campaigns that upset other parties, while the DA allegedly raised concerns about other parties’ obsession with the ANC. After laying the foundation for the convention, its chairperson, Professor William Gumede, pleaded with political parties and individuals to think beyond their political differences for the sake of the country.
“But it's going to be important that they rise individually and collectively. That they rise above petty squabbles, rise above egos, and that in every decision they make, they have to think about the public and the interests of South Africa. It has to be for the future of all of us. Those who are still to be born.”
As the IFP, we are here to determine how best we could serve South Africa together, how to bring about much-needed change, and how to make sure that the issues that are important to our constituencies are on the negotiating table. These include crime, unemployment, poverty, inequality, load shedding, and the ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor.“It is something I publicly committed my party to following our federal congress.
